The Night Life in Colombia

No journey to Colombia would be complete unless you enjoyed some of the country’s night life. The night life in Colombia can get pretty interesting, especially in major cities. However, you always want to keep in mind that you need to be safe and respectful of those around you. That’s the key to having a good time.

Tips on Safety about Colombia Night Life

Enjoying the bars and clubs of any foreign destination is usually going to be more perilous than sticking to the standard tourist attractions. Colombia night life is no different, although you do want to remember that the country can be a dangerous place if you wander into the wrong areas or get involved with the wrong people. You should always travel in groups and keep your alcohol consumption to a minimum. If you’re interested in getting intoxicated, stick close to your hotel. Also be aware that some people will “spike” unattended drinks of both male and female patrons in the city so don’t take that risk. You’ll be better off if you also know at least some polite phrases in Spanish and always travel in a group. No matter where you travel after dark there is safety in numbers.

Bogota Night Life

As the capital city, one would expect Bogota to have some of the best Colombia night life available, and the city does not disappoint. If you’re looking to glimpse the seedier part of the city, you might want to visit the Extasis or the Casablancas. Most of these clubs open around 6 pm and stay open until 1 am. After one o’clock in the morning, the clubs are supposed to close so keep that in mind when planning your evening. Many of the best bars and discos in the city can be found in an area known as Zona Rosa. One example is Tropical Cocktails where you can enjoy a tasty frozen alcoholic beverage as well as some great dance music and Colombia night life.

Barranquilla Night Life

Although Bogota is the capital, that doesn’t stop some of the other cities from having their own examples of amazing Colombia night life. If you’re looking for a good time in Barranquilla, you should head to El Norte which is the northern part of the city. Here you’ll find some of the top bars and clubs in the area, including Froglegs and La Quinta. About 15 km (9 miles) outside the city, you can find a great spot on the beach known as Klimanjaro where you can enjoy music under the stars on the coast.

Cartagena Night Life

Some of the best Colombia night life, however, is going to be found in Cartagena. One example is La Tarzana which is a two-story building known as the Candy Market (Portal de los Dulces) during the day. One floor is dedicated to salsa and latin-flavor music while the other has electronic music going all night. Plus, there is no ceiling so you can dance under the stars. An alternative to traditional Colombia night life is the Chiva which is a bus that plays Caribbean music and serves rum while taking you on a night time tour of the best the city has to offer, including some of the most delicious restaurants.
