Shopping in Colombia

Most visitors to Colombia don’t leave without doing some shopping. Below you’ll find information on some of the best spots for shopping in Colombia in three of the most popular destinations within the country.

Shopping in Colombia: Medellin

One of the highlights for any shopper visiting Medellin is the Centro Comercial Palacio Nacional. This shopping mall was originally the National Palace and most of its appearance has been retained, even though it is now home to more than 200 stores and a delectable food court. The Monterrey is a unique shopping center in the city as well. Instead of just offering shops, the area also includes discos, a children’s play area, a casino, and free Internet time.

Shopping in Colombia: Bogota

Although Bogota has its fair share of commercial centers and shopping malls, too, one of the real highlights are the emeralds. If you’ve every wanted an affordable emerald, this is the city in which to find one. The best of the jewelry stores are in La Candelaria in Bogota. Emeralds and jewelry made from these gems are going to be quite affordable here. However, don’t expect to find good deals in cities such as Cartagena. You’ll pay three times more. Also, remember to haggle about the price. That’s just what’s expected in Colombia.

Shopping in Colombia: Barranquilla

Another fabulous shopping center is located in the heart of Barranquilla, a city in northern Colombia on the Caribbean Sea. The center known as the Buena Vista has multiple floors of shopping opportunities. Full of color and greenery, this shopping area is one of the best in the city and provides a wide variety of boutiques, jewelers, and restaurants for your shopping pleasure. Plus, if you’re too tired to continue shopping, you can always sit back and watch the people strolling by.
